Featured Role Model
Bella Mercado
Bella Mercado is a recent graduate from East Los Angeles College of Nursing and encourages students to apply for scholarships as a way to pay for college. It might seem difficult at first, but once you are able to put “your story” into an essay the process becomes easier. Her own story started when she was young and came across a television special that talked about the work that Mother Teresa was doing in India to help those less fortunate, hungry and sick. Those images of Mother Teresa made an impression on Bella and is the reason why she is pursuing a degree in public health.
Out of the 3,000,000 registered nurses in the U.S., Hispanics represent only 3.6% even though Hispanics make up 17% of the U.S. population. Many Hispanic students and parents are not aware of the multiple opportunities that exist in the nursing fields.
